I have now uploaded the first swathe of newsreel videos to the file repository - in the "video" folder. For any of sensitive disposition (does that include anyone here? ) I should note that these are contemporary Pathe newsreels, and the commentators do not know much about PC.

Dean - knew you'd come up with the goods! Excellent idea, and fine looking screen. You go for it! :rocking: I also like the contemporary "comic book" feel - which would be exactly right for an addon which centres on US Carrier aviation. The only thing is, now you've shown us up by doing some thinkin...

Amazing stuff pobs. Thanks for all your work on the carriers.

It will certainly be at the heart of this addon.

Done deal then. We'll use the remainder of the British slots for the Escort carrier squads.

Campaign newsreels

I've downloaded a number of newsreel items from the Pathe site, whcih when converted into .smk format we can hopefully use as campaign newsreels. I think I understand right that we now understand the relevant code in the campaign files which triggers the playing of the newsreels. So far I have items...

Functioning kamakaze?

In the first CAW slot list the kamakaze was assigned to the V1 slot. However, Flyright has done much research into a functioning kamakaze and determined that it can only work in another aircraft slot because EAW always returns to the deafult V1 FM in that slot. He has produced an FM which causes the...

US Squads in the CAW 1944 theatre

There seems to be a lot of information about the US squads, but not all of it isconsistent. The main fleet ("fast") carriers held a CVG - a carrier air group consisting of fighter, torpedo and dive bombing squadrons - hence CVG 2 contained VF-2, VB-2, and VT-2. These did an approximate 6 month tour ...

Japanese Squads in the CAW 1944 theatre

To enable the campaign builders to work, we need information particularly on the Japanese squads of the Armyand Navy Air force in the CAW 1944 theatre. I have this list so far: Imperial Japanese Navy Air Force See the notes on IJN units of organisation here (1) Carrier Squads 601st kokutai Carrier D...

In your hands really Pobs, you suggest how best to do this and I'm sure it would find general acceptibility. If those unneeded tree slots could be used let's do it. What alternative slot useage do you suggest?

Setting up a front end manager to swap requirements for campaigns on one or other side its not particularly difficult, and would indeed be one way round that particular problem. And indeed if theplayer is making front end choices in that way, the theatre could be set up with whatever objects were re...

Excellent point Pobs. We're certainly going to try to model harbours and Japanese Naval bases, so we need wharves and cranes. We can probably loose a couple of the buildings in the Tmod list to this. How many slots do you think we need for this?

Pobs correctly points out that if we have US land based aircraft we must have US ground objects which the Tmod list does not provide for. So I suggest we reuse those vacant British aircraft with alternative US carrier squads. Perhaps including one of the light carrier or escort carrier based squads?
