Re: Chris Cartledge, Fleet Air Arm pilot who bombed Tirpitz
The commentator of the video mentioned that the wheel base of the F4F was about the same as the Seafire but because of low speed handling characteristics the pilots had no problem landing the Wildcat. If you watch the video it is plainly obvious. The F4F toodles onto the deck and catches the 1st or ...

Re: Chris Cartledge, Fleet Air Arm pilot who bombed Tirpitz
Recently watched a Youtube video on British carrier fighter ops. A huge number of Seafires broke into pieces landing on the carriers. I mean, they literally came apart. The F4u didn't have that problem but the landings really did look like controlled crashes. OTOH, pilots made landing other planes, ...

Re: Watch an encounter on the Moldovan Front 1941
So there I am watching the video and I see a bunch of R/S issues with the I-15 and I think "how the hell did I miss those?". Headed off to the aircraft inventory to fix said issues only to find out I never did that model. Whew! If you'd like it fixed just point me to the source or better y...

Re: Glide Aircraft Skin Issues
I use modified pallets all the time. For instance, the winter camo on many of the Eastern Front aircraft. I convert the summer skins to Gray Scale, lighten them a bit with the brightness function and then cut the pieces from the modified texture back to the original texture. I also change one or two...

Re: Glide Aircraft Skin Issues
Maybe we're talking about two different things. I was referring to the problem of reversed textures, mostly on the wings. I found a work around to this when the extra 3dz files were incorporated by splitting the wings horizontally. I did it on the F2a Buffalo and it seemed to be successful but that'...

Re: Glide Aircraft Skin Issues
To my knowledge this has never been solved.
There is a workaround but it requires a lot of editing of the wireframes to make it work and there's just no manpower for such a project.

Re: How accurate is Spielberg’s "Masters of the Air"?
I read a few other reviews and they all say the same thing. An OK series but lacking in character development, exacerbated by the fact you can't see the crew members faces during the flight sequences. And two reviewers even mentioned how they had to "squeeze" the Tuskegee Airmen into the s...

Re: How accurate is Spielberg’s "Masters of the Air"?
My strategy is to suspend (or cancel) a couple of the pay services, watch a couple more for 3-4 months and when I've wrung them dry of quality shows, suspend those accounts and reopen the previously suspended ones. Wash, rinse and repeat. Side tip. I had a massive hack of my Amazon account a couple ...

Re: How accurate is Spielberg’s "Masters of the Air"?
Ok, so there I am watching the trailer and lo and behold up pops a section on the Tuskegee airmen. I'm hoping it's just a "fly by" reference thrown in to satisfy the Wokesters among us because they never flew escort for the Bloody 100th. They were stationed in various locations in Italy, m...

Re: Definitive books on Eastern Front air war
I love puncturing "common knowledge". Here's one for you. Turns out the engines were probably not the reason for the Whirlwind's disappointing wartime record. The Peregrine being the last iteration of the tried and true Kestrel. It's more likely the problem was the propellers. The prototyp...
