Very good, Knegel! Thanks for your help. This adds new thinking.

Pobs------If we get the gliders going, how about using your "Reconn Mission" for the landing maps?

Hi again,

i think i found a good solution for the gliders.

We use a droptank as towing plane, this droptank keep ALL fuel. After cutting the connection to the towing plane the enginesound will die and so the thrust.

All planes of the squad will glide now. This even work if we intercept this gliders, cause in general they will drop the tanks if combat start. So they cut the conection when its needed, like in reality, when they are over target or if they get attacked.

The glider need a static undercarriage though, cause planes without fuel dont extract the underacrriage by its own.

ok, i can confirm what i wrote above!!

I have a plane that glide and is able to land everywhere!!

The damagemodel still is ok, only the wings are a bit though.

Is there a skin available?? The undercarriage hight need to get adjusted!!

Best would be a Glider + C47 in front of it.

Edit: In this way we can use the gliders in any mission like it should be! :)

Awesome!
Howdy Knegel :D
so,the existing C-47 needs to be converted to a droptank,or should I say....the two halves will have to be converted to "droptanks",as a single C-47 made up from only 255Polys will be very ugly indeed(unless Col.Gibbons has an 3DZ ace up his sleeve!)ergo, the low res-halves of the C-47 would have to be modded to take the place of a left hand droptank, and a right hand droptank.......is this possible :?:
(Hmmmmmm)
and, yes, the glider does indeed have a static undercarriage :!:
well, lots to deal with regarding a proper 3DZ cockpit for now

Hi Schrecki,

the C47 can get created out of as many loadout 3Dz´s as we dont need for the real loadouts, but max 5, cause we only can have max 5 different loadouts per plane.

btw, i wanna capture England, so where is the DFS230 + Ju52, eh?? :D

ANYONE---- How do we get the long tow cable drawn from the "drop tank" C-47 to the "main plane" glider?

I'm a klutz with Gurney's 3DZ studio. Someone who knows what they are doing may have to take over.

Got a new node attached to the cable gear on top the WACO glider.
Tried to make it a hard point (it seems to mess up the transparency).
Have NO idea on making the cable.
Nothing but CTD after CTD.

Wudy - simplest way might be to make the cable a "no.1" straight line element with 3dz codes to make it disappear on "weapons launch" (as used on ordnance racks). The new 3dz editor doesn't deal with no.1 elements, so you may to revert to putting in the element by hand in the text dump from the 3dz converter.

The cable then in effect is the ordnance rack and disappears when the ordnance - the tow aircraft - is released.

Addendum to above cos not explaining this at all well :) - the cable becomes the ordnance rack and is therefore set as an "ord.3dz" like the other ordnance racks. In effect it becomes a paste-on to the hardpoint you're using. You also set up the towplane as a piece of ordnance in weapons.dat to use that particular rack.

The 0/0/0 3dz centre of the cable 3dz must be at the end which attaches to the towplane, which is where the hardpoint must also be set.

Making any sense?

Hi,

since tthe glider work only realistic(without engines) if we use a droptank as towing plane, cant we use a 2nd droptank to draw thwe cable, or cant the cable be a part of the towing plane?? Afaik, in real life the cable will stay with the towing plane anyway.

Wudy, i dont know to get to your G.mail.com site, how do i get there??

Could work.

I was assuming we wanted the cable to disappear rather than fall away.

In reality I'm assuming that after the glider dropped the tow, the cable would be wound in by the towing aircraft

uhmmm, thats okay Woody,I do understand, however,it will have to wait until I finish the glider cockpit, and alterations to the glider 3DZ....then I'll deal with the hardpoint/ordnance/towcable issues :!:
