Screens of some new exe tests

Post by AngleOff »

Just testing some of the new exe's.

For me, immersion is why this sim has captured me. But as most know,
some things have become a little stale, so new is good!

I personally am slap-happy with Wudpeckers new sounds with a
doppler effect for flyby's, which you can hear in all it's glory simply
by hitting F9 and rotating the view..........even more awesome with
a squad fly-by or utilizing F12 action view. Unfortunately, I can't
post a screen of it....

So hear is a ship convoy moving....I know...just a screen.....but there
are a slew of ships...that ARE moving...still waiting for the wakes to be added:

Some of the varied added 'blue' explosion:

Notice it is Rottons spIXC floatplane downing that 88 in the blue
explosion:

And of course being able to land on water and get this:

Will post more when I get em.

Bullets trail smoke on the convergence exe:

All guns spit their shells, bullets flash:

I know you cant see it here (I just like the screen!) but AI are much more
talented and evasive, shooting is more effective, and gunners and tail
gunners on bombers are more effective:

And new wideview is dazzling, especially external:

I know you guys know about all this stuff, but I'm like a kid in a candy
store!

AO, I am totally blown away.
Outstanding. Gotta get The Gen to approve posting these publicly.
EDITED: how in tarnation did you get that wide-angle view?

You have found every "biggie" that the code group struggled over--and made them very happy.
We love seeing (or hearing) what we did. But we love it even more when someone else likes 'our girl'.
(and Syddy, not me, is the "doppler effect" genius. And you know some of those engine sounds you can take credit for )

Seeing the landing shots, apart from wanting to grab the files that implement it, what about adjusting the 3dz model so that the floats are partially submerged below the water surface?

Submerged? Aye, there's the rub.
Going negative (as someone remarked recently) doesn't work well as an easy answer.
If you can think of a way....hooray.
Getting airplane parts to disappear---that's the thing. For downed planes to sink, even life rafts, pilots in Mae West's (life jackets), and who knows what else? Even wave wakes for ships may be involved.

The "crash in water" trigger may have to be adjusted also. 'Drag' goes sharply upward.
Check the "Life Boats" thread for some work ideas available. Fly.c
Old PAWcode commented out may have some more on this subject. Haven't gone through all modules.

Have seen the problem of wheels being partially submerged in runways,
or even floating in the air.......thought it was EAW, but maybe not........
but when they were submerged, they disappeared.....so maybe a
negative number for the surface of the water may indeed make the
floats 'disappear' so to speak? ( You KNOW I'm talking off the top of
my head and have NO idea how this works! :) )

Spitty---those are good--
What is that Nads/Knegel actually named? I take it that it is a newer one, not the one in our test package.

Nads Gunsmoke exe, from the 19/10/07.To run it I just copied out my jaw.ini file, renamed it eaw.ini and the exe ran fine.My vid card din,t like the tracer smoke too well and came up squarish grey splotches.I hope it had the wideview bits in it... They do look different to the originals.

Aha! That's why the splotches, Spitty.
The jaw.ino file is stuck at 640x480 resoution. Or rather, it doesn't have any, and the game reverts to the 640x480 game default.

EDITED: TRY THIS: ELIMINATE YOUR EAW.INI.
After you copy your own ini settings over to jaw.ino, of course. Just leave Jel's engine starts and settings unchanged, as he shows in the "Tests of Concatenated Exe's" thread.
(give your old ini a name like "eaw.ini--Spitty's" so you still have it)

This is the list of jaw.ino files that Jel says should be included:
