A 1.28c User suggestion....

Post by Skylark »

Hi Guys,

I've been playing 1.28c in SPAW and I'd like to make a suggestion about the AutoClimb function.
Since there already exists the ability to turn AutoCombat 'On' and 'Off'.
Could it be possible to have the same ability for AutoClimb to turn it 'Off and 'On'.....

Or....if this can't be done. How about this.

Change the sequence from AutoPilot....AutoClimb....AutoOff.
To AutoPilot....AutoOff....AutoClimb....AutoOff.....and then back to AutoPilot

Reason: When using the AutoPilot function into the combat area and the player wanted to regain control of his aircraft. Going through the present setup sequence hitting the 'A-key' causes the aircraft to pitch up abrutely before the player can hit the 'A-Key' again to gain control.....seems somewhat disruptive and rather un-natural to the game play....

When the enemy is attacking the squadron. Having my aircraft pitch up,
places me at a disadvantage, because I first have to counter this automatic function before regaining control and attack the E/As....
For a moment I loss situation awareness of the enemy and forward airspeed which I have to re-acquire before committing to combat.

Ideally, if it were possible for the player to turn off this function then, like the 'AutoCombat', it could be used or not at the player's choice.....

Thanks for reading

Agree with you, David.
"Auto Climb" is awkward to use as it is, and I seldom use it at all.

Hi guys,
I use the autopilot and autoclimb quite a bit
and have gotten use to it.........
One push for autopilot, two quick pushes for autopilot-off.

What I think happens is that when on autopilot you are ready to
turn it off and engage, but you forget and only push it once,
get the pitch up, then remember to push it again..............
can be disconcerting and mess up your timing........
but if you remember to push it twice, it won't pitch up.

I primarily would use the autoclimb online, if I am leading the group
across the channel, or my hand gets tired while climbing up to an
enemy.
Just remember two quick pushes, and you'll find it's really easy.

Hi,

such a possibility could have been implemented, if you would have tested in time.

I only can repeat: Testing is not much worth after the release.

I will remark this for the next release.

btw, personelly i use autoclimb very often. Its a good way to gain alt in a wanted direction, specialy in combo with time acceleration.
With reduced throttle its also very usefull when you want your squad to form up.

Why not move the Autoclimb feature to "Ctrl-A" or "Alt -A," much as the Wing Leveller uses "Shift-A" as an on-off function.

Hmmm.....Interesting responses

Hi Ralf,

Well mate you're absolutely right about 'testing' and 'timing'
but my comment(s), as always, was a 'suggestion' and not a 'personal attack' on the Code Group.
I have enough to deal with when I've got Zeros on my six...

I think 'AutoPilot' is an interesting new feature but I also think
that having it placed directly after the 'AutoPilot' feature
makes it somewhat disruptive to the flow of the game...

CJ's 'suggestions' also has merit because his 'suggestion' would
separate the two operating functions of 'AutoPliot' and 'PilotClimb'
and give them both 'user priority'...

As for AngleOff's 'suggestion'. For the time being, I'll try his immediate user fix.
However, I think that when the new release is being developed that you might 'consider' my 'suggestion'
and look at the function of 'AutoClimb' as a separate function from 'AutoPilot'....like what was done with 'AutoCombat'

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The following is just between you and I, mate...

Since when, in this community, was a'suggestion' considered to be a
'complaint' and was worthy of an 'attitude' kind of response...
Everyone, is this community, has the same goal in mind
and that is to make EAW the best WW2 flight simulator
and as user friendly as possible.
'Suggestions' sometimes can be a refreshing 'points of view'
and coming from a user can provide valuable feedback.
Feedback that, at times, can provides a Eurika moment that the
addon developer may not have considered...
That's why feedback, on any addon, is considered important information
which is sought after and should be considered valuable by the developer....
As I understand it, this EAW.exe development is a continous work-in-progress...

So, take a deep breath, put the attitude on the back burn
and let's all proceed with the goal at hand...

Which is...To continue making EAW the best damn WW2 Flight Sim ever...

Cheers mate

David,

i dont take such a suggestion as personel attack, iam just dissapointed from this so called group.

What bugs me in this case is that you be a code group member and have full access to all beta version, but like last release you didnt do any of the realy needed testing before the release, at least there was no feedback, but right after the release you come with suggestions(last time it was the same).
Such suggestions are currently of no help and they may get forgotten until the next release.

The autoclimb feature got implemented already with EAW1.28b, so there was plenty of time reporing such a problem.

Hi Ralf,

Because of the 'Stonewall' treatment I recieved when I 'suggested'
a few changes that might be 'considered' for the first 1.28exe. release.
I began to believe that my 'suggestions' might not be appreciated.
So, I choose to keep quiet about further releases.

However, with the release of SPAW/1.28c I thought maybe attitudes
might have softened a little.....

I see, I might be incorrect with that assumption....

Again, you are absolutely correct....timing is everything
It was my hope, that regardless of the timing, that my 'suggestion'
might be 'considered' for the good of all EAW users for further releases.....

I shall endeavour to improve my timing for all feature releases

Cheers mate

Hi David,

if you got a 'Stonewall' treatment, there must have been a good reason for.
Maybe you dont have a idea how many time we put into codework, its not just a half hour every day, for EAW1.28c i did spend in the middle 4 hours per day for EAW, though in relation to the EAW1.28 to EAW1.28b development i already had to reduce the amount of time, cause the real world needed me as well. Alongside i have to keep my little company alife and my family need me as well and there is also a soccerteam where i play etc.
If you consider this, you should get aware that we cant listen to everyones call and cant reply to everyones request or suggestion, not cause we dont want, rather cause we miss the time to keep track to every post in the lot of EAW forums and theatres.
We also dont have the time to explain always with the nicest words why we cant do this or that, cause nice words stand for long sentences and difficult formulations. Often we even dont have the time to explain things at all, cause you(not just you) miss the needed basic background informations, which would be the base for a fast clarification.

Suggestions are always welcome, specialy if they have a fundament.

The Autoclimb already got changed, the mini patch gave us the possibility to include this.

Hi Ralf,

Well, I guess, that being overworked, having to deal with deadlines and
conflicting responsibilties can add to pressures which contribute to your stress overload.
Also having in the back of your mind that "this is afterall only a hobby" and
"is suppose to be fun and might not be" can also weigh on the conscience as well.

Venting said pressures and ranting on someone you don't know is, I suppose, a way of relieving this accumulating stress.
Certainly it would seem, the lesser of two evils, then taking your frustrations out on those you work closely with or live with.
This doesn't make it right but it is a human failing in us all.

I now have a more enlightened view of whom I'm dealing with.
So, I acknowledge your explanation, have a better understanding of where your coming from and accept the inferred apology.

For my part, I'll try to improve my untimely 'suggestions' and
you can try, "not ripping me a new one", each time I contact the Code Group...

---------------------------------------------------------
So, let us both, put this behind us and move on....

Cheers mate

You just should try to do what a code group member is supposed to do:

Help when help is needed, not again and again after the work is done!

Believe me, programming is pure fun, its no fun to see that noone else realy contribute.

A suggestion also can be a contribution, but it need to come in time.

When i join a group, i agree that i want to work in the sence of this group.

Edit: Nowhere i wrote that iam overworked, i just did clarify why it happen that we dont see a request/suggestion and why we keep our comments often rather short( thats what i would call 'Stonewall' treatment).

I think you absolutly did not understand what i was try to tell you and so i doubt you know who are you dealing with.

You realy must think you are very nice, but you dont seems to see that your "i feel so ignored, cause noone listen to my suggestion" is also ranting.
Also the suggestion short after the release, while there was absolut NO input before, is ranting.
Sure the written is nice, but its like not helping your old granny to bring the rubbish out, but just after she have done the job, you say: "hey, cant you use smaler rubbish bags, then its more easy".
If someone, who is not related to your granny, give such a suggestion, its a nice suggestion, but if you do it, just after she is ready, its just an incredible cheek.

Hi Ralf.

There is room for all types of contribution in this group. One person regardless of his skills should not put himself over another. I was not aware there were pecking order here, as were all supposed to be working toward the same aim, but to many times, good ideas have been ignored or squashed.

My idea of multi skins was at first treated as a joke, but is it a joke now? The problem I have is I can see in my mind the logic of how something could work in the game, but turning that logic into actual code, is the part I lack. I simply don't have the time to learn C, or all my 3dz projects would have to stop completely for a long time.

As you yourself said, I'm the only real 3dz artist you have, so is it better for me to continue with my contributions in my field, or stop and do something completely different?

Each of us contributes, even if you don't see it that way, and you should start to open you mind to ideas, regardless how stupid they might seem in the beginning.

Particularly in this public forum, we should remember the trad EAW Charter as well:

"As you yourself said, I'm the only real 3dz artist you have"

Now just wait a frickin' minute. Not to blow my own horn but it's about time I received some recognition around here.

Who else can do ALL these things:

3dz creation and modifications ( Planes and Tmods )
Weapons modifications ( ordinance and guns )
Flight models
Target editing
String editing
Sound editing
Screen creations
Map making
Skinning

Pick a category. Every single one of you has at least one area on this list where you couldn't find your ass with both hands.

In addition:

Who developed an entirely different, quicker method for updating old models to hi-res?

Who puts out the most hi-res models?

Who fixes older R/S problems on models for any one who asks?

Who developed contra-rotating props?

Who developed dive brakes even before 1.28c?

To say nothing of being the driving force behind SPAW.

I'm so pissed right now I can even think of all the contributions I've made here.
