To Ralf and all Code Group Personnel....

Post by Skylark »

Hi Guys,

As a member of the Beta Testing Code Group, I thought it might
be appropraite to reveal at this time, the reason for my absentism over the past months of July thru September.
I've been acting as the primary care giver to me father who was afflicted by an aggressive form of cancer.
My Dad and I lost that battle mid August and by mid September
his memorial service took place. Since then, I've become my mother's
primary care giver and helping her get through these past months.
So you can understand that my responsibilities were very prioritised
towards family matters and not all things EAW.

I had known that there were further 1.28? exe releases
but I just didn't have the time to review them. Let alone test them.
Over these last few weeks, with my limited involement in SPAW,
I becaome aware of what great advancements have been made by the Code Group with the 1.28c release.
Only over these past few days have I been able to read the other 1.28? 'readme' texts
and fully appreciate the scope of those changes.
I think it will be sometime before I can truely test all the new features
that have been created by you guys....

At this time, I'd like to extend my personal apology to Ralf.
I'm aware now that my untimely 'suggestion' would have been more appropriate
had it been submitted months ago when 1.28b exe was released....
However, family responsibilties took presidence over hobbies.
My only hope, is that, with reguards to my 'Suggestion' thread, that my explanation
and personal apology be accepted by all.......

Respectfully
David

Larko-- Regret hearing of family tragedies.
This is entirely a volunteer forum. What is contributed is done freely.
Most of us have limited time in our lives and cannot keep up with each change and development.
We have to understand the personal lives of other members may interfere with participation, and allow for that.

On the other hand, each contributor wants his or her work tested and reviewed. They are impatient to get on with it. To have to wait for review is cumbersome and irritating when you are hot on the trail of something. So it is also understandable if the work goes ahead.
Only public releases of new exe's really require a time for review, because they are signed off as a SEAWC group. If they were only personally signed off, that would be different.

Since these realities clash, it is vitally important to show the consideration that you have just done. It is a good reminder to be civil to one another.

Except that we always get into these situations where we all get painted with the same brush. When in fact:

Most of us are civil.

Most of us don't put ourselves up as "masters" of any particular part of EAW modding.

Most of us just want to get on with the fun of modding EAW.

Most of us would enjoy improved camaraderie here.

Personally, I don't think Sky should be apologizing. I think he should be accepting an apology.

But I won't hold my breath.

Well said Ray.

I'm to, going though a load of rough water, but I'm not sharing it here.

EAW is not our life, it's a hobby, and as such we can only commit our spare time, which can be different from day to day.

The trouble is, some don't seem to realize that.

Hi David,

iam sorry to hear what happened to your family. :(

Knowing the circumstances of your absence before the 1.28c release, iam even more sorry that your request, by accident(as i know now) , brought the already cooking water (on my side) to boil over.

Nothing to apoligize from your side, it was just bad timing by accident . :)

All the best to your Mom, i hope she somehow will find a way to live with this big loss.

Greetings,

Knegel

Understood. Sympathies to you and yours Sky. There are times that things will happen that are out of our control. We all should understand that. Accept things for what they are and move on best we can.

On a lighter side, you can tell that Skylark is Canadian, he's so damn polite!
If all else fails, punt. Or, RUN AWAY!!!

Hi David

I’m very sorry about your loss.
My deepest condolences to you and your mother.

And as John wrote:

EAW is not our life, it's a hobby, and as such we can only commit our spare time, which can be different from day to day.

So there’s no need to apologize.

All the best

David,

My most sincere condolences to you and your family.

As they say, it's a hobby, not a job. We all contribute when time permits; nothing more can or should be expected.

No worries....

Hi Guys,
I thank you all for your kind words and support....
and to Ralf, thanks mate for your understanding....

As said by John, we all know that this is a 'hobby'
and that we share this hobby with a group of 'long distance' friends.
Friends with various disciplines, skills and personalities.
At times, issues and discussions, do sometimes, heat up,
causing friends to get frustrated, angry and thus we argue....
These circumstances flare up when we take issue with somethings,
we strongly believe in. We all share that common trait.
However, what we should remember is that we are,
as Ray once said, a very small band-of-brothers
and we are all team members, working together, on this 'hobby' of ours.

The reason for the apology, is that I felt, I had inadvertently upset you Ralf
and had played a part in having caused you to turn your back on the Code Group.
I saw myself as being the 'final straw that broke the camel's back' so to speak
and that bothered, me deeply. I also thought that I had in the same way contributed
to two valuable members abandoning of the Code Group.
I was told once, by a fellow I once worked with,...."Don't talk, you'll hurt the team!"
and I felt, I had, this time, talked too much and had hurt this team.
Hence my apology to the core membership of the Code Group....

Throughout these past few months, it was important to me, personally,
to know that I had the support of this fellowship....
A group of friends who would provide me with some stability
over these rough times and I was disturbed to see both
Tony and Ralf chose to walk away after my 'suggestion' post....

With the beta testing of SPAW, I have seen the power of this 1.28c exe
and the work that so many have contributed, for it's release.
My only hope is that both Tony and Ralf make their sabbatical
from the Code Group a short one...

Cheers to you all

David.

I'm saddened to read of your loss and I now understand how difficult this has been for you. No apology is needed on your part.

My only hope is that both Tony and Ralf make their sabbatical
from the Code Group a short one...

I cannot speak for Ralf, but my absence is not a sabbatical one, and I will not be returning.
