Oy, can you believe it's been close to a decade since I set up SPAW final cut????!
Lot's I've forotten but I do know you don't need a land tile so you can put the carrier anywhere you want.
I seem to recall airfield six is the invisible one that is elevated but I can't be sure. Maybe the best thing would be to look at the carrier/ airfield combo in SPAW using the target editor.

Since 1.28c with the "Allied Carrier" they have been on water tiles

Okay Chaps, I have four carrier bases more or less in place. It's then a matter of sliding in the tmods and getting the height right.
I do have this problem.
Salerno Bay, where the carriers are, is very near the southern edge of the map.
I am running 24thNov1922_NewMap.exe, and I have wall.mpf with a zero value.
However if I place a carrier base nearer then 12 tiles from the edge of the map I get a CTD when trying to ground start a mission there.
Is this some continuing effect of the default wall value (32 miles), or is it me being dumb and missing something?

I am not sure. My revision of the wall code was meant for players flying into it. I do not know if it affects starting point
Try a bombing mission with the carrier as the target. When you get near hit "E" repeatedly to bring up the TMods which should include the airfield and the carrier. Do not actually bomb the carrier straight away. Does the wall come into play?

I don't know if it helps but in ETO2015 there is a target in northern Italy that is very close to the edge of the map.
