Aircraft for Mogggy's Dunkirk v1.60+

Post by Iron Mike »

Ray,

Also off topic... grabbed it already and found that the pilot wing view ( planeU.3dz ) was not mapped to a texture panel. I finished mapping to the planetes.pcx and renamed it. I don't think that I'll have to make any mapping adjustments to the main skin. One question though, the underside of the lower wing have a large blue rectangle and hardpoints. Is this for ordinance?

Also, look at the French machines...

From Peter's email to me.

The full original plane list for Dunkirk was:

British:

Blenheim IV
Wellington Ic
Skua II
Swordfish I
Battle
Hurricane I AASF
Spitfire Ia
Hudson I
Hurricane I 11 Group
Defiant I
French:

V-156F
LeO 451
Amiot 354
Potez 63.11
MB-152
Bre 693

German:

Bf 109D-1 nightfighter
Bf 109E-3
Bf 109E-1
Bf 110C-1
Bf 110C-2
Ju88a-1
Bf 109E-4
Ju87B-1
Bf 110C-1 nightfighter
Do17z-2
Hs-126
Ju52/3m
He-111H

Because the V1 slot is now available, and I can now have a different plane set for each of the ten days, the setup now also includes these planes:

French:

D510
D520
Potez 631 nightfighter
DB7
MS406
Caudron
MB200
Arsenal AVG33
Hawk 75
Koolhoven KH73
Amiot 143

German:
Hs123

Something odd going on.

I just checked the Swordfish over here and the wing view is perfect. It is mapped to a texture named PLANEU.pcx.

Those blue panels on the bottom of the wing are meant to display ID numbers. At least that's what I suppose Moggy had in mind.
Since they are transparent and there's nothing on the texture file they shouldn't show up in the game.

I'm not sure what you mean by check the French planes.

This is the pre R50 Swordfish in Dunkirk:

In Dunkirk it is used as a level bomber, and sometimes as a dive bomber (the Swordfish was atually stressed for dive bombing).

In the last two says I've found a couple of vacant slots on 30th May 1940, so I've added some missions for the Gladiator flight which flew from RAF Manston ("G Flight" believed to have been surplus 615 Sqn machines) and some ground attack missions for the Glenn Martin 167F (aka Maryland) of GB II/62 Armée de l'Air

OK. I'll have to put a few shots up then download them here. I've had my cataracts removed and am a bit fuzzy.

There is a u.pcx but the mapping is way off. Anyway, until I get a proper set of reading glasses in a week or two, things are a but too fuzzy to work at the computer. I've a pair of drug store readers but they just don't do a good enough job for painting.

Just a note that I am continuing with the1.6 version of Dunkirk, which is a continuation of the work I started on a 1.29 version a couple of years back. This removes the file manager, and instead uses plane folders for each of the ten days.

Having done all the mini-pix I'm now working my way through the new hangar screens for the additional aircraft.

Jel - many thanks for the work on tmod smoke and on the new missions editor. Will get to both shortly.

So far it is slow going. I re-mapped the Hudson a bit, the Swordfish too. But, I couldn't pull off the non mirror on the top of the lower wing. Mogggs, what Carrier for the Swordfish?

Mike, grab the swordfish from the DAW plane inventory.

It is the same model but with the wingtips and other round edges smoothed with extra nodes.

Also, what's wrong with the Hudson that you can't non-mirror it?

Hello Mike,

Looking nice  .

The usual carrier for FAA 825 Sqn (Canadian manned) would have been HMS Glorious, but they were seconded to Coastal Command for Dunkirk. They flew from the RAF Stations at Detling and Thorney Island to carry out operations in the English Channel against U-boats, E-boats and enemy transports in the Calais area.

Just as well the squadron was away because Glorious was of course sunk on 8th June, the only carrier ever to have been sunk by naval gunfire (the German battleships Gneisenau and Scharnhorst).

Ray,

the Hudson is fine, I was able to do my stuff without much of a problem. It was the Swordfish that has caused the greatest amount of work. The only bit I could't change was the top of the lower wing. The way the texture panel is laid out doesn't allow any major reworking. So, it is a mirrored area. Also, I used the DAW Swordfish I from your Malta/DAW set (roughly August 2014 file dates. If there is something newer than I need it.

Thanks Mogggs.

Mike,

I'll e-mail you the latest Swordfish. It is from June 2016.

I didn't do any remapping from Moggy's original so everything SHOULD fit.

Hurricane Mark 1, N2358, 73 Squadron, Berry-au-Bac, France, May 1940

Banged out one or two bumps in the model, added a 2 blade prop and we have a proper Hurricane for ops. And, I do have the correct serial number on the finished skin.
