A film about a decorated Irish Spitfire pilot has won almost 50 film festival awards ahead of its release.

The Shamrock Spitfire tells the story of 21-year-old Brendan “Paddy” Finucane, the youngest Wing Commander in the history of the Royal Air Force.

So despite its occasional lack of subtlety, Dominic and Ian Higgins’s RAF biopic is a welcome throwback to matinee-style viewing, right down to sundered lovers canoodling in front of starlit canopies.
